United Commercial Upholstery (UCU), the manufacturers of the Suite Seats family of golf cart seats and accessories has expanded into a new facility. The new 42,000 sq. ft. building sits on 7 acres of land to allow, of course, for future expansion.
Phil Vorwerk, the president of UCU talked (in an interview with golf car news) about adding 4 new products to their line in just the last four months, plus the large increase in their Marine OEM business, and stated “we simply did not have the space required for more employees and new equipment and technologies”. Chris Vorwerk, the other half of UCU’s husband and wife ownership added in an interview with Golf Car News “The production flow we’ve been able to achieve with the larger building has really enhanced our ability to substantially increase production volume without sacrificing quality or service times. And because we relocated to a much larger community it has really improved our ability to attract & retain skilled, motivated people”. Chris also stated that due to the labor intensive nature of upholstery manufacturing that this has been a big plus to their move.
"If you think about it," says Phil, "with unstable gas prices and the growing trend to think green, then golf cars, specifically the LSV's (Low Speed Vehicles), are only going to grow in popularity.
Starting in 2005 the Suite Seat line has grown to over 500 dealers across the US & Canada. Which is pretty impressive considering that everything UCU manufactures is made right here in the U.S. In New Ulm, Minnesota to be exact. Keep in mind as well that UCU’s Original Suite Seats was one of the very first golf cart seat upgrades, and they have certainly proven themselves to be a go-to premier manufacturer. All that being said with a growing demand and an excellent product it’s no wonder they are expanding!
